School zones are areas around schools where, during certain times, reduced speed limits apply. Speed limits and drop-off, pick-up and parking rules exist to keep children, parents and carers safe and to minimise speed and traffic jams around schools.
Adults are expected to abide by the road rules at all times within the school zone. An increasing number of vehicles have been observed stopping in the bus zone to collect or drop off students. This is unacceptable, unsafe, and against the law. You must not stop your vehicle in this zone during the times stated (8.30am - 9:30am, and, 3pm - 4pm, Monday - Friday).
Parking rules apply around schools, especially around school entrances.
Schools are busy areas, where there are often lots of children—who do not always understand the danger of roads and vehicles. Make sure to take extra care when parking on the roads and streets around the school and follow the signed parking rules at all times.
Parking safety tips
When parking on the roads or streets around our school:
say goodbye to your children on the school side of the road—never get them to cross the road to their school’s entrance alone
walk across the road and meet your children after school (never call out to them from the other side)
try to leave home early to avoid arriving at the busiest times, or, arrive at 3.10pm to avoid parking congestion
follow the directions of all signs
park a safe distance from all crossings
always single park (double parking causes accidents and traffic jams)
try parking a street away from the school and walking with your children
organise a car pool with other parents—to reduce the number of cars trying to park around your children’s school
Children waiting for parents are expected to sit and wait under B Block: this is a staff member on duty until 3.20pm to supervise students.

Darling Downs Readers Cup
Reva, Heidi, Tess, Max & Oskar competed in the Darling Downs Readers Cup challenge in Toowoomba. Students had to read five novels in preparation for the challenge: "Silver Linings", "Running with Ivan", "Lost Library", "Losing the Plot" and "The Kindness Project". The competition involved approximately 150 students from schools across our region including Toowoomba private schools and other state schools from as far away as Goondiwindi & Chinchilla. Katrina Nannested, author of "Silver Linings", was the guest speaker and presenter.
For Parents and Carers nominating children for Qld Schools Sporting Trials (9 years - 12 years):
There is a clear process that parents & carers must follow when nominating their child to participate in a Qld School Sports Trial. It is the parent's responsibility to ensure the "School Sport Trials Permission & Student Health Information Form" is returned to the school within the specified timeframe.
The Principal or HPE Teacher is required to sign the "School Permission section" of this form to give approval for your child to attend. The form then needs to be returned to you and handed to officials on the day of the trial. The trial fee must also be paid via Qkr! by the due date for your child to be eligible to attend. Pittsworth State School cannot see who has paid or not paid, as we do not manage payments and registrations.
Failure to return the form and/or pay the trial fee by the due date will render your child ineligible to attend the trial. This decision is made by the zone convenor and not Pittsworth State School.
No form = No trial. No payment = No trial. As a parent/carer of a sporting child, nomination and payment is your full responsibility.
