Thanks to Pittsworth Lions, ALL of our students have the opportunity to undergo comprehensive and FREE Vision Screening by trained Eye Health Facilitators and Lions volunteers (training approved by Centre for Eye Health.)
1 in 5 children have an undetected vision condition. It is important to pick up any problems as soon as possible to reduce the impact on their development.
The vision screening requires students to complete 4 assessments, which only take a few minutes to perform. There is NO physical contact made with the child and NO eye drops administered.
Results are sent as personalised letters identifying &/or highlighting any areas of concern that should be referred on to an Optometrist for further examination if required.

Basketball
Brodie T and Patrick S made the South West Basketball team and went to Brisbane from the 12th – 15th of June for the QLD state trials. It has been 20 years since South West have had a team. The boys were up against some strong sides, but they showed their dedication to the sport by coming back and playing in our local basketball finals on the Saturday before returning to Brisbane to keep playing. The South West team did come away with a win in their last game. Patrick received Top Performer for the game, with 18 points.
Netball
Lilly L made the DD Netball team and also was chosen as Captain of the team. She went off to state trials from May 29th – June 1st at Caloundra. They had some strong competition. Congratulations Lilly on receiving player of the match twice.
Rugby League
Brodie T made the DD Rugby League team and is off to the QLD State trials 29th June – 3rd July. Best of Luck to Brodie!
Karen Murphy Cup
Eleven of our Year 5/6 girls travelled to Highfields on Thursday 12 June to participate in the Karen Murphy Cup. This was the first year that 5/6 students were included in the cup. We had students from Wyreema, Millmerran and Highfields join our team. The day started out with the girls doing some tackle safe drills and skills, then the games commenced. First game was against Fairview Heights. The girls put on a performance winning effort 24-0. Second game was against Oakey and the girls were unstoppable winning 24-0 again. Third game was against Fairview Heights and the team won 16-0 and in our last game against Oakey, the girls won 24-4.
The girls were the overall winners of the day! Congratulations to all our girls!
For some it was their first time playing but you wouldn’t have thought so with the way they tackled and ran the ball. The girls didn’t stop smiling and had so much fun. Reeghan, one of the NRL developer, told Ms Will that the girls showed outstanding sportsmanship throughout the day. Ms Will is super proud of all of you!

Ella, Emily & Madi are competing at the Maryborough Equestrian Challenge.
Consent & Payment for Sporting Trials
For Parents and Carers nominating children for Qld Schools Sporting Trials (9 years - 12 years):
There is a clear process that parents & carers must follow when nominating their child to participate in a Qld School Sports Trial. It is the parent's responsibility to ensure the "School Sport Trials Permission & Student Health Information Form" is returned to the school within the specified timeframe.
The Principal or HPE Teacher is required to sign the "School Permission section" of this form to give approval for your child to attend. The form then needs to be returned to you and handed to officials on the day of the trial. The trial fee must also be paid via Qkr! by the due date for your child to be eligible to attend. Pittsworth State School cannot see who has paid or not paid, as we do not manage payments and registrations.
Failure to return the form and/or pay the trial fee by the due date will render your child ineligible to attend the trial. This decision is made by the zone convenor and not Pittsworth State School.
No form = No trial. No payment = No trial. As a parent/carer of a sporting child, nomination and payment is your full responsibility.
